Big Day in Athens

Writers spend nearly all of their creative lives working alone. I also work by lamplight before dawn. If one does it for a lifetime, that's a lot of your life spent in solitary confinement.

But just once in a while, the world you sought with your writing comes to you. Today is one of those days. To my great joy, my alma mater is honoring me with a book party honoring my latest book, It Is Written: My Life in Letters.

The event is in the Grand Hall of the Russell Special Collections Library at 300 S. Hull Street on the University of Georgia campus in Athens from 5-7 p.m. There will be food and a bar.

Here is the marvelous story in today's Athens-Banner-Herald from the great Wayne Ford:

And there was also a nice story yesterday in the campus paper The Red & Black:

If you are able, come out and celebrate books and Athens. And if not, I have more events coming up around the South in the coming months. I'll let you know!

  1. Oh, how I wish I had seen this before today--I would have tried very hard to come to this event, friend. As it is, I send you all my love and congratulations. This is an honor well deserved!
